Human Rights European Parliament

Protection of human rights in Moldova - homosexuality

   Tue 12/12/2000

Is the Commission aware of an incident that occurred on 23 September 2000 when the Moldovan police, with a great show of strength, interrupted a meeting of ‘Curcubeul’ (Rainbow) and declared it unlawful? Curcubeul is the only organisation which defends the interests of homosexual men and women in Moldova and is affiliated to the International Gay and Lesbian Association. What measures has the Commission taken, or will it take, to point out to the Moldovan Government that such conduct does not comply with European standards and values and to urge it to bring the police authorities concerned into line?
